What exactly is a virtual health consultation? A virtual health consultation is a video or telephone appointment, which allows you to speak to a consultant or doctor without the need to travel to an office or a hospital. You'll typically have fast access to your healthcare specialist and have the opportunity to discuss your health concerns at your own convenience.
Virtual care has transformed the healthcare industry and has served patients who would not have had access to their doctors during the COVID lockdowns and restrictions. But, did you know that telemed services were growing at exponential rates BEFORE the world was paralyzed by a virus? What started as a way for tech savvy people to conveniently communicate with their doctors has now become a life saver for patients of all ages including seniors.
Telehealth appointments are usually scheduled faster than in person appointments, are more efficient than in person appointments, often allow the patient to have more time to fully explain their conditions, are more convenient than traveling long distances to see the doctor you choose, and often are lower in cost than in person appointments. Studies have shown that doctors feel telehealth technology has given them a “greater continuity and deeper relationships” with their patients that have opted in to virtual visits.
As time goes on, more and more patients will expect virtual care to be an option and part of the standard in healthcare. I believe that will become a reality very soon. There is no substitute for a firm handshake, looking someone directly in the eyes without a computer screen between the two people and a long reassuring hug when the situation arises and requires one; however, if the doctor truly loves the patient they’re working on and isn’t just skilled in communication but genuinely cares about the person he or she is working with, that will shine brightly through during the telehealth visit.
I’m looking forward to meeting you during your virtual health consultation. Before we have our appointment, I will have analyzed your Symptom Survey that you filled out online and I will already have analyzed your Comprehensive Metabolic Profile and CBC if you shared one with me. I’m going to sit and listen to your story and I’m going to ask several questions to make sure that I get all the necessary pieces of your unique health picture to ensure that I can provide you with the best Plan Of Action going forward.
I can’t wait to meet you, listen to you and determine if I can help you.
In Health and Faith,
Dr. Jay Korsen
